CUTT GLASS
Cutt Glass are South Africa's only professional all female a cappella group.
Shireen Hollier, Karen Meiring, Jolette Odendaal, Bondina Osterhoff and Anna
Davel are considered one of the foremost artistic groups in South Africa.
In 1993 Singcopation, their first CD, received a Radio Artes award and in 1995
Cutt Glass won the Vocal Ensemble category for the Concurs Panafricain Musique
et Des Arts competition held in Pretoria. They received an award for their
adaptation of the Mango Groove hit, Moment's Away. In 1996, Cutt Glass was
chosen as part of the line up for the opening of Parliament in Cape Town where
they sang their rendition of Kwela vir Mandela to President Nelson Mandela. In
1997 their second CD, One Voice, was released.
In 1998 Cutt Glass represented South Africa at the Lisboa Expo in Portugal. They
awere appointed by SATOUR to be South Africa's first Cultural Ambassadors and
won a special award at the Tampere Festival in Finland. In 2000 they released
the album Snykant/Cutts and the following year saw the BMG release of Slegs Glas
and two Geraas Music Awards for Best Comical Album for Snykant / Cutts and Best
Sound Engineer for Slegs Glas.
Cutt Glass's a cappella renditions are cleverly strung together with matter of
fact witticisms, which cause uproarious laughter. Just about everybody of
importance is joked at in their lyrical dialogues. They perform countrywide in
theatres, at festivals, concerts and for corporate affairs. Their bilingual (and
sometimes multi-lingual) show is always fresh. Cutt Glass productions include
Not Only Angels, Kitsch & Tea, Elements of Surprise, Cutt Glass in Cabaret, Cutt
Glass in Concert, Radio Goggo, A Summertime Christmas, the CD Concert and Cutt
Blanche. Cutt Glass shows are adaptable to client's needs.
