DAVID BLOCK
As an astronomer and motivational speaker, David Block has addressed audiences
around the world, encouraging them to "always look up, and never give up." At
the age of 19 he was elected Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society of London
and has been featured on BBC television. He is professor in the Department of
Computational and Applied Mathematics at the University of the Witwatersrand and
holds a Master's degree in Relativistic Astrophysics and a PhD in Astronomy.
His audio-visual presentation The Power of Vision can be tailor-made for any
conference or company. It is a visual and intellectual feast that takes
analogies from the cosmos such as How to Thrive on Chaos, Light is Never
Intimidated and Stars are Stars Whether Big or Small, applying these themes to
everyday life.
Professor Block is author of Starwatch and Our Universe: Accident or Design? He
has a regular slot on Radio 702 Cape Talk and has been a guest on radio and
television nationally and internationally. His research has been published in
many science journals.
[He] combines principles of astronomy with principles of management…. each one
of us is born to shine like the single humble star which can still stand out
within a galaxy of hundreds of millions of stars...many of us go through life
looking down at the ground rather than looking up and following the example of
the stars. Clem Sunter of David Block
