NIANELL
Nianell hails from the sleepy desert town of Umaruru, nestled between the urban
sprawl of Windhoek and Swakopmund. Her parents played musical instruments and
sang, as did she and her sister. Singing, Nianell says, is all she ever wanted
to do. Her earliest influences included Abba and Barbara Streisand and her broad
mindedness towards different music from other cultures fuelled her creativity
and influences. After school she studied music and classical voice training
through London`s Trinity College and attained a diploma in Light Music, all the
time penning her own songs and demo-ing her own material.
Nianell has won several music awards including the prestigious Crescendo prize
for Tone-setting. She has performed in Ireland, Belgium, Botswana and France.
She performed for Mr.Nobel, of the Peace Prize fame, in a live showcase at the
international music trade fair MIDEM and a stunning concert at the International
Music Festival in Riga, Latvia in 2000. Over the last two years Nianell has
written and demo-ed nearly 40 songs for her debut album.
