ZEN ARCADE

The four-piece rock outfit Zen Arcade formed in December 1999 and in June 2001 launched their debut album Snowflake, already onto its second pressing, and nominated for a South African Music Award for Best Rock Album in 2002. Their debut single Crazy Over You received daily airplay and rocketed up national and campus charts, it reached number one on the 5fm/Coca-Cola Top 40, a rare distinction for a South African band and was the only locally produced single to be included on the year-end compilation The Hits 2001.

Zen Arcade has been a top feature at major South African festivals and concerts. They performed at the 2001 5fm/Edgars Birthday Bash, the 2002 5fm Easter Rock Festival and were invited by The Springbok Nude Girls to support them on the SNG Fat Lady Sings Farewell Tour.

Zen Arcade have featured on numerous radio interviews, two live broadcasts on 5fm as well as on breakfast TV. Their self-produced video for Crazy Over You was aired on Geraas on SABC2 and on Smelt (KykNet), a full-length 40-minute "unplugged" show was broadcast twice on Draadloos (DStv). The band has been fully self-sponsored and self-promoted.
