ABBOT & CRABB

Abbott & Crabb, Dave Abbott & Henry Crabb’s comedy and music have audiences shouting for more. The two performers are stalwarts of the South African pub entertainment industry and have performed at prestigious venues such as Sun City and The Carousel and in neighboring countries Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia.

Abbot & Crabb has been together for the last 20 years. Their reputation is built around a show that combines stand-up comedy and sketches against a strong musical performance based on their considerable vocal and instrumental abilities. Vocals, guitars, violin, banjo and assorted props create a diverse and always interesting show.

The duo released an album of their songs, At Last, in 1990. The album sold well and received extensive airplay, which inspired Abbot & Crabb to record a live album, currently being mixed for release.

 

AFRICA 2000

The eight-piece band Africa 2000 is a blend of ethnic African music and Western pop. Their culturally diverse song list is imbued with their unique African feel, evidenced in the use of percussive African instruments, African guitars and vocal harmonies. Their Western pop influence adds an interesting dimension to their African hit repertoire.

Africa 2000 is an exciting addition to any function or event. The band perform in an array of dress styles influenced by their African and pop repertoire which consists of amongst other songs, Patta Patta, Meadowlands, Click Songs, Malaika, Tula Tula, Jabulani, I Will Survive, Believe, Crush, That’s the Way it is, Rock and Roll medley, Beatles medley, Italian songs such as Arrivederci Roma, Isle of Capri , Dove l’amore and La Vida Loca.

Corporate clients and events include Canada Life Worldwide Conference, SA Breweries, Public Accountants and Auditors Board, African Life and Altech.

 

AVALANCHE

Avalanche is a dynamic,versatile, international touring band with over nine years of successful corporate experiece. The band comprises of three, (four including saxophone player if available),highly qualified, experienced and talented musicians who have performed for high profile corporate shows, weddings, parties, theatre, television and recording studios both locally and overseas.

Clients include SAA, IBM International, Rand Merchant Bank, VW, African Bank, Toyota, Justine, Anglo American, Vodacom, M-Net (incl. Loerie Awards 2001) and Sun International. International experience both collectively and individually includes performances in the UK, USA, Middle East, Bahrain and Dubai.

Avalanche’s repertoire appeals to all ages with songs ranging from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, right up to recent popular hits. The dynamic frontline singer encourages audience participation and has the best dance moves. Avalanche do a crazy drum solo with audience interaction using frying pans and chemical drums. Whenever possible, the band utilize the services of the best female sax players.

 

AVZAL ISMAIL & THE LATIN FIRE BAND

Avzal Ismail, leader of and pianist for The Latin Fire Band has enjoyed critically acclaimed performances locally and internationally. The Latin Fire Band is all about Latin jazz and salsa and is the only authentic Latin jazz band to emerge from South Africa, which emulates the style of great Cuban bands. This six-piece band consists of some of the country’s finest musicians. Neill Ettridge is the drummer, Dennis Lalouette the bassist, Mauritz Lotz the lead guitarist, Brendan Ross is on saxophone and Buks Botma on trumpet.

The Latin Fire Band perform a mixture of original material and classic Latin standards in the Cuban and Brazilian tradition. This band is a must for your next functions if you want to do the cha cha, rhumba, bolero or bossanova. Hot, passionate, exciting and full of Latin Fire, this band creates a sensation wherever they appear.

 

BALLYHOO

The name Ballyhoo is synonymous with success in the South African music industry. Their hit tracks Take Me Down to Cape Town, Rock ‘n Roll Party, Shattered Silence and Man on the Moon, which all took them to the top of the charts, will be remembered by South Africans for years to come.

CAPRICORN

Capricorn’s large and versatile repertoire makes them one of the most popular cover bands in South Africa. They cater for all ages, nationalities and themes and regularly perform at weddings, gala award evenings and company launches.

Multilingual front man, Jean-Francois Martinelli ensures that a good time is had by all. At company functions Capricorn can create whatever mood or theme you wish. The band plays Kwaito and other types of African music and is able to perform as a duo or up to a six-piece band. At weddings Capricorn is at home with any nationality. For Jewish weddings and Bar Mitzvahs, they have a vast selection of Jewish music and back the benching. Capricorn’s ability to retain appropriate sound volumes ensures that they entertain dancers without drowning out conversation.

CUBA GROOVE BAND

Sizzling on stages across the globe, the hip-swinging, rumba shaking Cuba Groove Band have built a reputation as exceptional entertainers. From Dubai to Johannesburg and Cape Town to Cairo, the band has never failed to excite audiences with their energetic visual performances.Originating in Cape Town, South Africa, the Cuba Groove band has risen to become a regular feature of the international entertainment scene. The band travel regularly to destinations around the world and have become a fixture of the fast paced nightlife of Dubai and Cairo, as well as extremely popular in the Mediterranean, and will soon be jetting off to Hong Kong, Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai. The extensive repertoire ranges from Latin pop to authentic Cuban, Caribbean to Reggae, and Spanish to Salsa, flowing seamlessly from style to style, while the dance floor is kept constantly filled with revelers. Exciting choreography provides a visual spectacle, while the expert musicians and singers deliver a world-class performance.The Cuba Groove Band typically consists of two female vocalists who are expert Latin dancers as well, a lead male vocalist, a drums, congas and percussion, keyboards, electric guitar, flamenco guitar, and a two piece brass section consisting of trumpet and saxophone. In addition all the musicians are lead vocalists, ensuring a rich and vibrant sound.

 

DANIELLE AND JOHN – VIOLIN & VOICE

Danielle Klimas originates from Lithuania, Eastern Europe. Her performing musical career spans more than twenty years. She is an accomplished violinist and singer and ahs studied and performed all over Europe and the Far East.

John Louw has been involved in the South African music industry and bands for over twenty-five years. His functions are management, song arrangements, sound, recording and backing tracks as well as occasional vocals and percussion.

Danielle and John have been performing in South Africa for almost 3 years. This combination performs all styles or genres of listening music. They have performed at over 500 functions at restaurant, corporate, school, party, art, presentation, launch and wedding venues.

They have jointly recorded 8 CD’s with numerous specialised individual CD’s as ordered.
They have developed a “Music Awareness” program designed to educate young children at schools. This program has been well accepted with many future bookings.

Their current repertoire of more than 270 songs is tastefully selected and performed to please a wide variety of audience with the ability to change styles during a performance. Their shows can last up to 5 hours. Genres include Old Popular, Light jazz, Light Classic, Latin, French, Traditional songs and Anthems.

 

DE KING AND I

A dynamic duo offering a complete entertainment package suitable for any occasion. Versatility is the name of the game where De King and I are concerned. Their show can be adapted to suit any desired theme or occasion, and depending on what is required for the evening, their repertoire spans from the music of the fifties right through to present day.

Tony and Nicola perform an outstanding Legends cabaret spot in which they pay tribute to various icons from the music business including the likes of Roy Orbison, Olivia Newton-John, Jerry Lee Lewis, Shania Twain etc. Incorporated into this show, Tony specialises in a brilliant Elvis Presley impersonation with full costume and excellent backing tracks, while Nicola delivers an outstanding tribute to the legendary Marilyn Monroe.

Another very popular feature of Tony and Nicola’s show is the Rock ‘n Roll set. The costumes are colourful and the music is guaranteed to get the party rocking. This show may also be adapted to last the entire evening for Rock ‘n Roll themes.

Tony, an established stand up comedian as well, is featured on guitar with both himself and Nicola on vocals. De King and I is a fully contained show with original backing music and plenty of audience participation.

They are the perfect package for any corporate function because there is no need for any extra entertainment. Tony will perform a hilarious comedy spot and is also a most capable and professional M.C. for any type of evening, an example being Awards Evenings or Prize Givings. The Elvis and Marilyn cabaret spot is perfectly suited for corporate events and Tony and Nicola will also provide live dance music to end the evening if required. Background music is also supplied during the course of the evening. De King and I come highly recommended and will ensure a good evenings entertainment, whatever the occasion.

 

FOUR PAST MIDNIGHT

The trio making up Four Past Midnight are lead vocalist Giselle, who also plays saxophone, flute and acoustic guitar. Dave is bass guitar and does lead and backing vocals. Lead guitarist David also sings and is the dynamic energy behind ‘silly sets’ when the band gets the party going with audience participation in activities and songs.

Four Past Midnight collectively brings over two decades of experience to their performances. They have performed at Sun City, The Hilton Hotel, The Hyatt Hotel, Caesars Gauteng, The Carousel, The Cape Intercontinental Sun, Graceland Casino and Montecasino and at functions such as the Miss South Africa Pageant and the Nedbank Million Dollar Golf Challenge.

Their extensive repertoire caters to the needs of most audiences and functions and is constantly updated to keep up with current music trends. Their computer expertise ensures for professional backing that supports their performances and enables them to tailor set-lists to suit clients’ needs. The band modifies their sound to suit quiet dinner parties or raucous dance sets. Their enthusiasm and high quality performances is the key to their success as a function and dance band.

JINGER JOE BAND

Jinger Joe band consists of 4 members

The history:
Verny, Tuxx and Neill have had a long history of successes in the music industry as all three members have performed in various top South African bands over the years.

Verny performed with in bands like “Rush Hour”, “Count Ash”, “Two Princes”, “Tri Funk Era”, and mostly recently with “Just Ginger”.

Tuxx performed with the likes of “Rasta Rebels” and joined up with Verny in 1995 with “Tri Funk Era”. The two artists later went on to become original, founding members of “just Jinger”

Neil on the other hand, has worked with literally ALL the top SA artists, from “Mango Groove” to the “NSO”, covering just about every genre of music.

As with “Just Jinger”, once the band was formed the members introduced a previously unknown lead singer. The recent introduction of Billy to Jinger Joe was officially announced at the WOODSTOCK FESTIVAL on Saturday 28th September when the group perform a few of the original tracks for the first time to a live audience.

Verny formed “Jinger Joe” in mid 2002 to warm audiences with his pop and rock sounds and an aim to record an original album by mid 2003. “Jinger Joe” is currently performing at various clubs to audiences aged between 20 and 40.

The Performance:
Cover songs, mid to up-tempo pop and rock, range from 60’s to present, catering for pup/club as well as corporate functions and weddings.

HAVANA GAS

Havana Gas combines the awesome talents of five South African musicians. Bass player and vocalist Storme Campbell’s debut album reached number two on the SA Rock Charts Digest and her single Don’t be a Stranger has received extensive airplay on local radio stations. Guitarist and vocalist Doug Campbell, has had three of his songs produced by Sting, he has written local and international scores for television and film. Philip Holder is on saxophone, he has worked with Bruce Cassidy and Johnny Fourie and is a sought after session musician and arranger. Drummer Neil Ettridge was a member of the band Mango Groove with whom he toured Europe Australia and the Far East. As a session musician he has made numerous recordings. Keyboarder and vocalist Lorraine Shannon has performed in Germany, Switzerland, Singapore and Hong Kong and is a pianist for the Jo’burg Pops. Lorraine released a solo album with Transitor Records.

Havana Gas has entertained corporate clients Toyota, Avis, Pick ‘n Pay, SAB, Sappi, Absa, Nedcor, Standard Bank, Liberty Life, Old Mutual and many more. They are a great cover band for corporate functions, product launches, weddings and matric dances and their ability to adapt to any audience has made them favourites at top venues such as the American Club in Singapore, Sun City Resort, the Sun City Superbowl, the Sandton Hilton, the Rosebank Park Hyatt, the Sandton Sun, Helderfontein Estates and Oakfield Farm. Their repertoire spans over six decades and includes African, Latin and Kwaito up to the latest hits. They can perform from a duo to a five-piece band.

 

HUEY & THE BOYS

The five-piece band Huey & the Boys was formed by television personality Huey Louw in 2000. After spending many years performing musical, corporate and industrial theatre for companies such as Raintree, Blue Moon and Jumping Dust, Huey handpicked some session musicians to target the corporate functions market.

Huey & the Boys play genres ranging from mainstream to contemporary jazz, Afro-fusion, R&B and Pop music. The outfit comprises Huey Louw on vocals and percussion, Sipho Nkosiyane on vocals and percussion, Anton Wynkwaardt on rhythm guitar, Concorde Nkabinde on bass guitar and Valencia Ferlito on keyboards.

They have performed for Johnson & Johnson, Themi Venturas Productions, at Natal Playhouse’s New Year Eve Bash, the Castle Premier League Awards, Discovery Health’s Year-End Bash, Nemisa’s Graduation, the Lahana Trust Award, Medics Award Ceremony, Afrox Aids Fundraising, Future Packaging, Jay Naidoo’s Birthday Bash, Dr. Precious Maloi’s surprise birthday party and Monsoon Lagoon’s Rewind Programme. Huey & the Boys have regular gigs at Katzy’s in The Firs, Rosebank and Back of the Moon at Gold Reef City Casino.

 

IN THE MOOD

Deborah Gorman studied music at the prestigious Royal College of music in London. She is a multi-instrumentalist and plays the clarinet, saxophone, flute and keyboard. Her music adds a touch of class to any launch, wedding, conference, party, corporate dinner, christening, Christmas celebration, or whatever you have in mind. Deborah often teams up with classically trained pianist Andrew Waugh and her repertoire encompasses light classical, mellow jazz, well-known classics, ballads, contemporary music, popular hits and Christmas music. Deborah can create any mood from a relaxed ambiance to a party atmosphere.

She has performed at Des & Dawn Lindberg’s Soiree Society, the Samuel Marx Museum, the State Theatre, The Linder auditorium, Mount Grace, the Wild coast Sun, Sun City, The West Cliff, The Sandton Sun & Towers on the Blue Train and on the Rovos Rail. She performed for the opening of the Monte Casino and the Sandton Convention Centre and for the All Africa Games and the Dunhill Symphony of Fire. Deborah has played in concerts with Julian Lloyd Weber, Helmut Lotti, The Three Tenors and under the baton of sir David Wilcox. She is a regular player with Johannesburg Festival Orchestra and has played with the National Symphony Orchestra.

She has shared the stage with P.J. Powers, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Sibongile Khumalo and Vicki Sampson. In April 1999, she released the album, Saxational, a compilation of some of her favourites, including jazz and Blues. Shortly afterwards she released Merry Christmas, with Love Debi.

 

THE LEPRECHAUNS

Few places in south Africa haven’t fallen for The Leprechauns irresistible Irish charm – they have played their way into the hearts of young and old from all walks of life, making them household names in their adopted homeland.

The Dublin-born and bred brothers have never looked back since releasing their first album here in 1985. Their remarkable success lies in a winning formula that they’ve perfected in countless gigs throughout South Africa and neighbouring states. They have played at Sun City, Gold Reef City, the Cape Festival, at agricultural shows, town halls, recreation clubs, private and corporate parties, pubs and beer-fests. The Leprechauns were the first Irish band to be invited to South Korea and were so popular as the resident entertainers in a Seoul pub that they were asked back the following year for another stint.

The twosome play a variety of instruments including guitars, banjos, electric fiddle, synthesisers, mandolin and harmonica and also make use of a drum machine and sequencer and can travel to whatever corner of the country it is that requires their winning party vibe. Their repertoire includes all the Irish favourites and a wide variety of music including Rock ‘n Roll, Country, Pop and International hits, something for everyone!

Dave Monks also does a One Man Band show and this includes his own PA and basic stage lighting which is ideal for Pub Evening entertainment.

 

MEAN MR MUSTARD

The popular band Mean Mr Mustard’s music is a creative blend of Pop and Rock. They started out in East-London and in Johannesburg signed a four-year recording contract with Gresham Records. Their first single, Can’t Get Enough, was released in 1997 and made it to Number Two on local charts.

Mean Mr Mustard is one of South Africa’s most experienced bands consisting of musicians who have played the club and concert circuits around the country and overseas. Their album, Only When it Rains features 14 great tracks produced by the band and management and mastered in London.

The songs have been written around personal experiences and feature the stunning vocals and song writing talents of Mark Beling, who fronts the band. All the Mean Mr Mustard albums have a message and Only When it Rains is no exception, the album expresses love and understanding. Since its release, the band has had a Number One hit on the country’s leading radio station 5fm with the title track and their second and third single, Without You and She’s Crying Again reached Number Two on the 5FM top 40. The band has played at all the major festivals and concerts in South Africa. Mark is lead vocalist and guitarist, Garth is on guitar and Leon is on drums.

 

OUT OF THE BLUE

Out of the Blue is a four-piece cover band with a large repertoire of music from the 60’s up to 2000’s with the latest chart toppers. The band does impersonations of Tina Turner, George Michael, Mick Jagger, Madonna and Gloria Estefan with costume changes and medleys of the stars’ greatest hits.
Out of the Blue cater to theme evenings like Blues Brothers evenings, Grease, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Pulp Fiction, Rock ‘n Roll and many more.

Sexy singer Jo-Anne Cupido is an experienced performer in her own right having stared in productions like Tree Of Light at the Vodadome, Fantasy Of Light at Nasrec and 702’s Sofiatown Experience. She was a successful contestant on SABC’s Popstars. Vocalist, guitarist and bassist Clayton Steward has appeared in numerous stage productions as an actor and dancer. Drummer Len performed in many rock and pop bands until joining Out of the Blue. Mike is the lead guitarist and keyboarder, he has produced and performed on nine top-selling CD’s including local and international number one hits.

Out of the Blue have done successful corporate events for 3-M, Sappi, Coca Cola, ABI, Altron, MTN, Vodacom, Investec, FNB, Stocks Leisure and Hunt Lascaris. They cater for any age group and occasion.

 

P’ZAZZ

P’zazz provides live music for functions and events and combines the talents of three exceptional entertainers. Clifford Cooper, Lucia Mthiyane and Luciano Zuppo, who have joined forces to launch this exciting function band. Clifford is musical director, keyboarder and vocalist. He has performed with Judy Page, Nataniel, Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Wendy Oldfield and released a solo piano album. Clifford has been musical director and pianist for major theatrical productions including The Official Tribute to the Blues Brothers, which won a Vita Award for Best Musical in 1997. He has played piano with the Philharmonic Orchestra and his clients include Justine, IBM and MTN.

Lucia Mthyiane has performed in musicals, theatre productions, on TV series, and has done TV presenting and corporate work. In 1997 she was nominated for best performance in a musical for her part in Blues Brothers. Lucia has done signature songs for Soul City, MTN African Connection Launch and the Vodacom Traffic Copter Am2day Launch and amongst her many appearances, she sang at President Nelson Mandela’s 1998 birthday celebration.

P’Zazz have a superb repertoire that can be adapted to please any audience. Their music ranges from golden oldies to the latest hits. Their vibrant energy creates a party atmosphere. They cater for Jewish functions at which they can provide the benching and sheva brachot.

 

SHAKE THE ROOM

SHAKE THE ROOM, are a male and female duo consisting of Dickie and Carleen Loader.

SHAKE THE ROOM have toured South Africa with the likes of Rolf Harris (for a period of two months) and have also appeared on at least 50 TV Shows. They have performed at numerous venues like the Sun City SuperBowl, Mabula Lodge and have spent many years performing at Holiday Inns’, Sun International and Southern Sun venues across the country.

They entered two of the three song festivals in South Africa (the show was sponsored by SABC) and came 2nd with a song they composed and performed. At the third and final Song Festival, Shake the Room came first with their own composition entitled ‘Eyes of a Child’ which they performed.

For a period of four consecutive years (1995-1999) SHAKE THE ROOM were one of the resident bands at the Carousel Casino.

In 1998, SHAKE THE ROOM were the only South African artists to be included on the Hit Compilation, We Want More No 19 (featuring the likes of Whigfield and Dr. Alban) with their composition ‘I Wanna Touch’.

They play a wide variety of music (Pop, Rock, Ballads, Latin, R&B, Soul, Kwaito etc.) featuring many hits from the 70’s through to the 90’s and are constantly updating their repertoire with the latest hits. SHAKE THE ROOM cater for corporate functions, parties, weddings and the gig circuit and are currently performing on a weekly basis at popular venues.

 

STING

The five-piece cover band Sting have been together for over 10 years. They cater for audiences of all ages and their huge repertoire covers all music styles, from Bach to the Beatles. Sting’s specialty is corporate functions and gala dinners.

A sample of their diverse repertoire includes Lady in Red, Arthur’s Theme, Leaving on a Jetplane, Nikita, You Make Me Feel Brand New, My Baby Just Cares for Me, Cabaret, Hello Dolly, A place in the Sun, Just the Way you Are and The More I See You, Mustang Sally, Unchain my heart, Dressed for Success, Simply the Best, Summer of ’69, YMCA, My Heart Will Go On, Because you Love Me, Unforgettable and many more.

Sting welcome requests and also play traditional African and Afrikaans songs. Their success is due to their versatility and professionalism, which ensures their continued success working for top hotels and venues in and around Gauteng.

 

THE BEANS

Three brothers Miles, Laurence, and Douglas Bean comprise The Beans. They formed in 1994 and can play as a trio or duo with Laurence and Miles or a trio with Douglas who is a part time lead guitarist for Wendy Oldfield and Henry Ate.

The Beans are in much demand for performances at pubs, restaurants, weddings and casinos. They are also called on to do corporate functions and have a vast repertoire of diverse cover songs, from oldies to contemporary numbers that they perform. The Beans have performed at the Wild Coast Casino for Blackjack tournaments and Xmas functions, at weddings, Keystone Café, Monte Casino, Champions Casino, Marc Anthony’s Cigar-bar and Caesars Casino. They have done several performances for corporate clients FNB, Datapro and Datatech.

All three members are lead vocalists and do harmonies. Miles plays rhythm guitar and harmonica; Laurence plays bass and rhythm guitars and percussion. Douglas is lead guitarist. They use mini discs for their drums and backing, which means that they can play softly if required, but still sound like a six-piece band.

 

THE WORX

The Worx are an extremely versatile entertainment band comprising Costa Nicolas on acoustic and bass guitar and vocals, Peps Cotumaccio on keyboards and vocals and Ronnie Joyce on vocals.

Their professionalism, sound quality and ability to read their audience make The Worx firm favourites with corporate and private clients. They specialise in corporate functions, promotions, formal gala evenings, parties and pubs. Their repertoire includes cocktail music, light jazz, oldies, sing-a-longs, Oompah, Rock ‘n Roll and Top 20 dance music. Their speciality act, performing Latin American music, features the Gypsy Kings, Santana, el Rombero and more. They also play traditional Greek music.

The Worx have been performing together for over eight years at various Sun International venues and corporate functions around the country and abroad.

 

TRESPASS

Trespass is a party band with a strong Latino flavour comprising of experienced entertainers whose energetic and vibrant performances are appreciated by all their audiences. Collectively, the band’s vast experience enables them to cater for all types of functions. Their repertoire includes dinner sets, Pop, Latino, Rock and dance covers from the seventies to the very latest. A professional sound system and lighting is supplied with every performance. Some of their clients include M-Net, Sun International, Absa, Standard Bank, MTN, Edgars, Daimler-Benz and Didata.

Lead guitarist and vocalist Mella was lead guitarist to the successful bands Walk This Way, Café Society and Slam Factory. He sings in a number of languages, which enables the band to perform Latino, as it should be, in Spanish. Mella is also a stylish dancer. Vocalist, guitarist and percussionist Devon has played the Sun International circuit for many years and has his roots in folk music. He has performed his own compositions at a number of large open-air festivals. His lead vocals, acoustic guitar, percussion and blues harp, add colour and mood to the band. Vocalist Rene Hunter is sexy and stylish, she was in the top 50 of the current Pop Idols and she sings like she means business. Rene adds glamour to the band and performs many of the latest dance tunes. She has appeared in a number of shows and local cover bands in the last few years.

 

2 SHY

2 Shy is an exciting duo that has been impressing audiences since 1990 in clubs, pubs, at weddings, private parties and corporate events.

The duo is comprised of two brothers, Shaune and Shand, whose repertoire includes popular classics from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s 80’s and 90’s, 2000 and beyond.

You can expect to hear Elvis, Cliff Richard, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, Men at Work, Eddie Grant, Dire Straites, Brian Adams, Crowded House, Cher, Lou Bega, Catrina and the Waves, Rickie Martin and many more.

 

VINNIE AND THE VISCOUNTS

“We perform the music that people want to hear” is Vinnie & the Viscounts’ motto and performing well is what this phenomenal band does best. They are one of Gauteng’s most popular live bands and they make the claim that they are the only specialist Rock n’ Roll band in the country. Vinnie & the Viscounts arrange and produce all of their cover versions which includes Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Eagles, Righteous Brothers and many more too numerous to mention. Their popularity signifies a major Rock ‘n Roll revival in South Africa and is not restricted to any age group.

Vinnie & the Viscounts’ seven members are SABC TV presenter Brian Mulder as lead vocalist, who was part of the hugely successful band Peanut Butter Conspiracy. Charlie Johnstone is bass player, musical arranger and a vocalist. Chris Vernon is a multi-instrumentalist, he plays mainly tenor sax and flute and is the mainstay behind the band’s big `brass sound’. Chris has played with visiting overseas acts and in the orchestra for popular musicals such as Hair, Me and My Girl and Chorus Line. Eckie Eckhart is a vocalist and the other half of the `brass sound’. Tony Moore is the drummer and Brian Murrison plays piano and provides backing vocals and harmonies. Mike Pilot is the band’s newest member, he plays guitar and sings, as well as being an accomplished arranger and producer.

X-OVER

X-Over is a four-piece cover band started by lead vocalist and guitar player Sharon Sibert. Vocalist and bass guitarist David John de Lange, together with keyboarder, acoustic guitarist and vocalist Darryl Wayne de Lange, was a member of Mean Mr Mustard, drummer Keith de Kock played in a number of bands before joining X-Over.

X-Over is Top Ten Hits specialists and plays almost every music genre. Their repertoire covers the 50’s and extends to the most contemporary radio hits. They have performed at a multitude of venues in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Potchefstroom, Namibia, Rustenberg, Klerksdorp and Kimberley and Sun City.
X-Over was the backing band in Eugene Howell’s music video on Pasella, SABC 3 and Darryl de Lange co-wrote the song.

Their corporate engagements include The JHB Country Club (New Years eve-1999 and 2000), Berk’s Bricks and the Michelangelo Hotel in Sandton. They are a popular feature at weddings and private birthday parties. X-Over is currently writing and recording an original album for release.

 

IN MEMORY OF TEASPOON NDLELU – AFRICAN FOCUS

The well-known Tony Maonde, with over 40 years of piano playing experience under his belt, has teamed up with sax player Teaspoon Ndelu of Mango Groove and Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens fame, to form the African Focus duo. Thanks to their talent and professionalism, African Focus has become a popular feature at corporate functions, weddings and private parties.

Their repertoire is an array of African favourites, township jazz, jazz standards and popular music from shows and big bands. They have performed at a number of prestigious venues and hotels in Johannesburg, Hong Kong and Bangkok. Their clients include Eskom, SAA, IBM, Rand Merchant Bank, M-Net, the Oppenheimer family, CSIR, Eagle Ford, South African Breweries, Xcel Info Technologies, Morso, Trans Caledon Tunnel Authority, Gerling General Insurance of SA, ANC and Trafalgar Properties.

African Focus is very versatile group should circumstances require, they can adapt themselves to be a duo, trio, quartet – including drums – or a five-piece band with a vocalist

 

THE ROCK REBELS – IN MEMORY OF BILL FLYNN

The Rock Rebels consists of some of this country’s top professional musicians, and after being together for only a short while, the band is already wowing Johannesburg audiences.

Bobby Louw and Bill Flynn are co-founders of The Rock Rebels. Singer, arranger, producer and songwriter Bobby Louw is on lead vocals. He has featured on many television shows as musical director, singer and presenter. Bill Flynn is on lead vocals, he is an award-winning actor and singer and has performed lead roles in plays, TV series and movies. PJ Powers is on lead vocals, she was lead singer for the famous band Hotline and is a successful solo artist. Kevin Kruger is drummer and on vocals, he has worked in bands with Cliff Richard, Trevor Rabin, and Helmut Lotti. He is also a producer for top South African artists. Denis Lalouette plays bass and vocals and has worked with Chris de Burgh, Trevor Rabin, Andy Narrell and Helmut Lotti. He is a much demanded session musician. Myles Shannon is guitar and vocals and is a top studio guitarist and producer, formerly of Hotline and Mango Groove, he has toured the country with Chris de Burgh.

Although these are the members of The Rock Rebels, from time to time any member of the band may get a prior booking elsewhere, so Bobby and Bill do not guarantee the presence of any particular names in the band. What they do guarantee, however, is a great band and a gig that really cooks!
